Cherry Blossom Time!

I wanted to shoot the Tidal Basin in two parts this year. One more traditional and one a little differently. This set is the not so traditional one. I wanted to shoot more of the Jefferson Memorial and the sunrise more than the actual Cherry Blossoms. I also played with the editing and tried to use negative space when composing the shots. I will post the more traditonal shots when Rob gets in gear and we venture out to the mean of DC... enjoy!

Great live show! I had no problems getting around although it was a packed show. Monica Blaire is an energetic performer which made my shot variety increase, making it an easy night to shoot! There was no stage or pit so I moved through the crowds trying to find interesting views. In fact, a few other photogs moved aside while I shot! They must've thought it was my place.....eh. Some of the shots are very orange due to color casting from some of the other guys using their flashes( get your lens game up!) so I went B/W with some of the images. All in all it was a pleasure to shoot! Enjoy.

I was tired. I'm an old man. My feet hurt. BUT, I would do it all again! The Talib Kweli show was amazing. His set was a perfectly selected blend of his new album "Gutter Rainbows" and the classic material from Black Star and Reflection Eternal which gives him his cult following. It was definitely worth the wait in the cold weather before the show, the lackluster effort of the opening act, Von, and the long wait between acts to hear the closing song "Just To Get By". I enjoyed myself thoroughly and would recommend that everyone catch Talib live. Enjoy the pictures!

Shannon won my twitter contest! She won a shoot. She rocked the shoot! I wanted to try some new things with lens flare and wide angles. Its a little different from my other stuff, but I think I can take some of the things I tried here and implement it in future shoots. Enjoy!

I have a lot of good friends. One of the common bonds are our children. Most of them are boys. Then we have L, Kellice, Sterl(who finally got it right and had a boy), and of course Hollywood...they insist on having girls!So, In the next 30 days I will be shooting the lovely young ladies of our crew!
The first set goes to Kory "Hollywood" Herman's babies, Brijai & Monae ... The dialogue between these two remind me of the sisters on that show Amen! Too funny! I had to hurry and shoot this set because these well rounded young ladies had to go to dance class. They were a breeze to shoot. Naturals! I hope they enjoy the shots!
I think Kellice is gonna get the call next... I hope it goes as good as this shoot.

This was a great way to end my first year of shooting weddings. Laura and Kevin are a wonderful couple and all around good people. It was very hard to stay professional with all the fun going on!
It was a cold afternoon. No one cared. The wind, although very strong,did not disrupt this outdoor afair. The light was great outside,not too bright,not too cloudy... I couldn't ask for better conditions from a photographers viewpoint. The tent was white,which made lighting in it a snap! Other than watery eyes, nothing to disrupt shooting. Oh yeah... NO UNCLE BOBS! All the guests did there job... sat down and enjoyed a service, and proceeded to the tent while I shot the formals! A FIRST!
All this, and the fact that I didn't over pack and wasn't rushed at any point, made this a great day! Enjoy the pics and I hope this trend carries over to my 2011 weddings!

Ran into this couple during a shoot. They hail from the great state of Texas. They were so happy and glowing so seeing that I was already there, I decided to snap a few. Although the reasons are different, they reminded me of my wife ten years ago. We chose to get married without all the pomp and circumstance, just us. Although it wasn't as nice as Meridian Hill Park (a cold alley in Las Vegas called "Wedding Bells Chapel"), we still look back and have no regrets of the decision we made. My mother didn't speak to us for three months though ( sorry Denise!).... Any way, congratulations and enjoy!

I've shot 2 quince's for Charlotte's family. I had no problem agreeing to shoot her wedding when she asked! Now... as many of you know, I'm the worst at answering my phone and listening to voice mails (a bad habit I've picked up from the advancement of text messaging and social networking), and Charlotte tried reaching me for a week! I got a "not so nice" voice message from her on the 8th day! Needless to say, the customer ( especially the return customer) is always right! This engagement session was a freebie...A small price to pay to keep my name good and a nice person happy! This was done on probably the hotest day this year at Meridian Hill Park. Temps were at 92 at 9a.m.! I also got another set of pics from another couple from Texas who were married that morning( awaiting approval to post images).Enjoy...

Nice lounge and awesome food! I broke one of my cardinal rules: I ate while the party was still going on! I'm so ashamed... The lighting was a lil tricky. I wish I had a faster lens in my bag,but I made due with my 24-70L and my 580 flash. The only problem was bouncing the flash. Most of the walls and beams were red. Two words...color cast. Thank goodness for playback on the LCD. Found a non red wall and shot most of them over! Enjoy...

This is my fourth maternity shoot and I wanted to do things different this time. I tried something totally different...I KEPT IT SIMPLE! Honestly, I did bring my whole set-up ( strobes, tungsten lights, gels, etc.) then something happened... the battery in my wireless trigger died! I took it as a sign from God and used available light then set up my flash with a shoot-through umbrella for the rest of the shoot. I like the results... I promise to keep the shoots as simple as possible. It also helps with the lugging of lights and stands. Enjoy...

Here it is... A wedding! People have been asking me to shoot one from the first camera I bought. I would shoot parties, BBQ's, birthdays, portraits...anything but the dreaded nuptials. I said that I would only shoot one when I feel comfortable. I'm comfortable. Bryan and Danielle are (or at least they put up a good front) very low maintenance and easy going. All Danielle wanted to do is take off those heels! The weather held up long enough to shoot the formals outside. The wind was not my friend that day, though. I lost my second piece of equipment in three weeks time, a brolly. No big deal. All in all the day went well and I hope they enjoy their photos. I also hope, they have a lifetime of wedded bliss!

A.R.T. of Faces Bel Air Mansion Shoot

My second shoot with A.R.T. of Faces(You need make-up done, she is great!).This was a TF shoot! I wasn't too happy about the start time(10:30 am) but I understand that getting up early for TF work is hard to do...The sun and the wind were the only problems that day. Oh yeah, I twisted my knee on the lil hill, but I didn't let on that I was in pain. I didn't want the ladies thinking I was soft! We got some good stuff and I hope to work with them again. By the way, While unpacking the car, I dropped my 50D with a 50mm 1.8 on it. My first lens causality. I perfect reason to upgrade to the 1.4! Hey Bree, funny thing happened.....

Kyle is a geek like me! So what, we GET each other! Keenan has my sense of humor, backed up with the verbal ferocity of his mother! He's always on 100! Love 'em to death..
